Welcome to my Junkyard

I use this site to experiment. Sometimes the site may be here, sometimes not. At the moment it is, tho', so I hope you enjoy it!

I am a web developer (as opposed to a web designer, my graphical art skills are woefully lacking). I am really a software engineer brought up in the age of mainframes, but have adapted to the changing face of software development. I have worked on operating systems, realtime banking applications, inventory and mortgage applications, etc. I have been a web developer for my current employer going on 11 years.

I have pretty much worked on every mainstream platform, in every mainstream language, development environments, etc. I consider myself a generalist, dabbling in just about everything, expert in nothing. My strengths are being able to learn, debug and live by the KISS/get it done methodologies. In other words I prefer common sense and practicality over the latest and greatest technology or the latest development technique.

What kinds of things do I experiment with?

I like to play around with different programming languages and CGI techniques... stuff like that. This is just a place where I can mess around and see the results, and when it doesn't work, no one cares.

For example, in the past I have implemented this, and some of my other sites in Ruby on Rails, Groovy on Grails, PHP, Python, Euphoria and a few other ways. It is also my test bed for ideas I might have, learning new techniques when I need to (AJAX, stuff like that) and whatever else floats my boat.
